Mental Health Support for Young Adults with Cancer (MELODIC)

Mental Health Support for Young Adults with Cancer (MELODIC)

The overall aim of MELODIC project is to promote mental health and well-being of young adults with cancer diagnosis, and their family/caregivers by improving screening, early detection, andefficient and person-centered management of mental health needs during the first year after their cancer diagnosis.

The project will produce in-dept information on the needs of young adults (YA) with cancer and their family/caregivers. In addition, also from health care professionals’ (HCPs) experience. This further complement existing evidence on mental health needs of YA with cancer and helps to tailor and reifine suitable screening practices and early interventions to support mental health and well-being and manage mental health needs of the target group (YA, 18-35 years).

The project will develop and test intervention that can support YAs and their family members/caregivers during the first year after the diagnosis to maintain and improve their mental health and well-being. The project will focus on producing evidence on social prescribing and psychoeducation inspired intervention including physical activity in green/blue space (element of nature/environment) and information support on mental health and wellbeing of Yas and family member/caregiver.

The project will develop training for HCPs with guidance and recommendations to increase the HCPs awareness on mental health aspects throughout the entire patient care pathway and professional support. The aim of training is to increase and HCPs skills on screening, early detecting and managing mental health needs of Yas and their family/caregivers. It is project’s belief that inequalities in access to mental health support can be improved, thus with limits, by investing in training of the HCPs.
