KAPU – Better cycling networks and services trough cooperation

In the KAPU project, we focus on identifying the main needs for the development of journeys for both cycle tourists and local cyclists. We disseminate information & build tools for municipalities, businesses and developers who work with cycle tourism and mobility.
The project will utilize test groups to assess the main cycle routes in the target municipalities from a cyclist's perspective and develop and innovate service models that take into account the needs of cyclists. Proposals for development of the cycling conditions are prepared for the participating municipalities and evaluations of the selected actions will be made.

The aim is also to increase cycling-friendly services in the South West Finland region through the Welcome cyclist programme coordinated by the Cycling Tourism Centre (Bikeland.fi).
The project will bring together local service providers, landowners and municipal representatives and raise topical issues, such as improving accessibility, models for cooperation between private and public road operators for more comprehensive cycling networks, logistical services for cyclists and the potential for extending the cycling tourism season.
The project partner is Turku University of Applied Sciences and the municipalities involved are Masku and Naantali. The project is also supported by Kustavi, Mynämäki and Parainen and the national Cycle Tourism Centre.
